History
Welcome to the historic Abernathy House, located at 406 Quitman Street, Pittsburg, Texas. This lovely Queen Ann Victoria style home was built in 1896 by D.H. Abernathy, a prominent dry goods merchant in Pittsburg, Texas. His wife, Mary Lou Pitts Abernathy was the niece of Major W.H. Pitts, who founded Pittsburg. The home was also the birthplace and longtime residence of D.H. Abernathy, the son of the original owner who has served as the Mayor of Pittsburg for the last 49 years. This site lets you learn more about the Abernathy House and how you can rent it for that special event, corporate retreat or getaway.

The historic Abernathy House was restored to its original beauty in 2004 after a two year renovation project. The famous Texas painter, Dalhart Windberg, used the Abernathy House to create the beautiful painting shown on this page.
